Bestselling author and Catholic Theologian Scott Hahn will give a presentation on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Wright Center. The event will last from 7-9 p.m. and is free for all to attend.
On his website, Hahn invites attendees to “go deeper into the riches of our Catholic faith” as he presents his lecture titled “In the beginning… sex was sacred.”
During his presentation, Hahn will discuss the role of family based on his recent book, “The First Society: The Sacrament of Matrimony and the Restoration of the Social Order.”
In this book, Hahn claims,“Everyone seems to agree that Western Civilization is in trouble. The problem is that no one agrees on what has gone wrong or what to do about it. Some think we have too much government, some not enough… But what if the problem is much more fundamental? What if the problem goes to the very foundations of who we are as human beings in relationship with God?”
Hahn first visited Samford in 2010, sponsored by Samford’s then newly formed Catholic Student Association. Hahn’s appearance this year is in honor of the CSA’s 10th anniversary.
As a professor of theology, Hahn is no stranger to a university setting. He currently holds the official title of Father Michael Scanlan Chair of Biblical Theology and the New Evangelization at the Franciscan University of Steubenville where he currently teaches.
Hahn has published multiple books, several of which have earned him the title of bestselling author. Among his publications are “The Lamb’s Supper,” “Reasons to Believe” and “Rome Sweet Home,” which was co-authored with his wife, Kimberly. His academic and written achievements have given him the opportunity to speak at multiple venues internationally.
However, despite his many monikers including author, speaker, and professor, Hann describes his life in simpler terms. He writes, “My work is about reading the Bible — reading it with you, and reading it from the heart of the Church.”
In addition to his lecture in the Wright Center, Hahn will be speaking at Beeson Divinity School in the morning and afternoon.
