Samford intramural flag football concluded its 2020 regular season and began playoffs on Sept. 20.
The men’s, women’s and co-rec leagues survived three weeks of pandemic-era games. Many games had to be cancelled due to players having to quarantine, but by way of forfeit or not, each team completed at least four games.
In the men’s division, the Pi Kappa Phi A Team is searching for a back-to-back championship this season. The team finished the season in first place with a 5-0 record.
“We’re feeling pretty confident,” Pi Kapp senior wide receiver Warren Fitzpatrick said. “The most important thing right now is our team staying healthy and free of COVID-19. If we can avoid that, then we’ll be in a good spot.”
Close behind Pi Kappa Phi sit their rivals, Sigma Chi A. They are heading into the playoffs with a 3-1 record and a two game winning streak. Pi Kapp defeated Sigma Chi in the championship last year by a score of 20-6.
In the women’s division, Chi Omega heads into the playoff with the first seed after an undefeated 4-0 season. They too, will be searching for a second consecutive flag football title. Phi Mu sits closely behind with a 3-1 record, with their only loss being a 32-6 outing against Chi Omega.
In the Co-Rec division, Team Me So Goni currently stands on top with a 4-0 record. Team Dudes and Chicks will have the second seed thanks to their 3-0-1 record.
Campus Recreation will continue to enforce its strict, player-only attendance policy for the playoffs. They will continue to post regular announcements and scores on the Campus Recreation instagram page, @samfordcampusrec.
