Some may argue that one of the benefits of attending a Christian university is the emphasis on spiritual well being. While Samford is proud of its numerous student organizations, there is also cause to be proud of the spiritual support offered to the leaders of those organizations.
Morgan Champion, the acting Chaplain for the Student Government Association is implementing a new project meant to spiritually support student leaders on campus this semester.
“This devotional is for anybody who wants to watch, but specifically student leaders,” Champion said.
Champion encouraged students to engage in this new spiritual opportunity on campus. The Student Government Association will be posting different videos with different speakers to SGA’s Instagram every month.
“We’re trying to do themes with the devotionals,” Champion explained. “So this semester’s theme is ‘Anointed’ for the videos, and we are just walking through stories of different biblical leaders in the Bible and how their stories of leadership in biblical times can affect how we lead.”
Champion is enthusiastically ambitious in this endeavor.
,“For me personally, it’s the largest scale of a devotional I’ve ever done because this devotional goes out to the entire student body, which is super cool because I feel God is using SGA in a very cool way this semester,” she said.
Only the first devotional, posted on Sept. 14, is led by Campion herself.
“I know that I have a lot to say, but I also know that there’s a lot of other really cool people that have a lot to say and it could really benefit the student body to hear from them,” Champion said.
October’s speaker will be Georgia-based pastor Nathan Castleberry and November’s speaker will be Samford senior Cole Frier.
“My vision for CAC in the future is to follow the same pattern of the chaplain doing one, a pastor doing one, and another student doing one,” Champion said. The Lord has just been impressing on me to seek first the kingdom of God in everything I do.Everything I do as chaplain is not to put glory on me, but it’s to put glory on God and to be of service to all the students.”
Committed to this spiritual service, Champion also started an email list. The people who are on that email list every month get the link to the video, and an encouraging message from Champion. The email includes a Calendly link where they can come and schedule times to meet, talk, or pray with Champion.
“I think in this time of Covid and uncertainty with everything crazy going on in the world, the Lord has just positioned me as chaplain, and with all these devotionals that are really cool at a really cool point to really bring light to a lot of people,” Champion said.
