On Friday Oct. 30, students gathered to march around campus for social justice. Throughout the march, there were students and faculty that gave speeches with different messages to the participants. Assistant professor Annalise DeVries spoke about what it means to be an ally, student Justin Hayes, Samford Ransom President Nelson Jordan and officers of the Athletics Council for Equality, Morayo Bhadmos, Armond Lloyd and Joshua Long, spoke about what it means to be a black person today. At the end of the march, professor and Director of Diversity Enrichment and Relations Cameron Thomas preached to participants about coming together as brothers and sisters of Christ, and that everyone gathered that day were there because of Jesus Christ. Many students and faculty, including SGA President Hope Dawson and Samford University President Andrew Westmoreland were in attendance.

Andrew Westmoreland speaks with Samford ACE Officers. Students marched around campus, starting at the Bobby Bowden statue near the football field and ending at the steps of the Wright Center. Students prayed at the end of the march. Cameron Thomas prayed with participants. It was a sunny, cool afternoon during the March for Social Justice. The March for Social Justice was organized and sponsored by the Samford Athletics Council for Equality and Samford’s Black Student Union. Samford University President Andrew Westmoreland attended the march. The march ended with participants praying. “In this being God’s work, God has given us an opportunity to make public that which He has done in private, and that which He has done for us in saving our souls, has given us a holy Christian imperative and mandate to seek out the injustice.” -Cameron Thomas Samford Ransom President Nelson Jordan sang after Samford ACE’s speeches.
