On April 6, Student Government Association’s Senate passed Alan Crisologo’s Election Results Bill, which will now display the election result percentages of candidates for all future Student Executive Board elections. Crisologo, Howard College of Arts & Sciences Senator and Campus Services Committee Chairman, said he is very pleased with the results.
“In prior years, the student body did not have access to the complete election results for contested Student Executive Board (SEB) races,” Crisologo said.
Crisologo and other students believe this bill will encourage transparency throughout Samford’s various election processes and promote students to become even more involved at Samford. Starting next spring, the Student Affairs Officer will disclose the SEB election results to the student body through email, social media and the SGA website for all contested SEB positions. These results will include the percentage of votes that each candidate received during the spring elections.
By this time next year, the Student Affairs Officer will implement a process that discloses SEB election results to the student body through a university-wide email on social media. SGA will also update its website so students can have even more access to election results.
Following each election, candidates and voters alike will be able to see the percentages that each candidate received while running.
“[The bill will allow for] more election transparency to our student body and brings our elections process closer to the real world in which all election races in the United States have election analytics available for the public,” Crisologo said.
Samford SGA advocates for proper representation of all students and encourages students to become involved on campus.
