Lakeshore is Samford’s newest ensemble group, originating from the Commercial Music area and headed up by Assistant Professor of Commercial Music Steven Potaczek.
On the evening of Oct. 26, the group held its first ever concert, debuting on the Quad outside of Beeson Divinity Hall. With their stage situated squarely between the north and south halls of Beeson Divinity School, the group of student musicians entertained the crowd with an array of pop music from decades past and present, ranging in everything from Bruno Mars to Bon Jovi. In addition to their cover songs, they also performed originals and medleys written by members of the ensemble.
The concert included a table with cookies and refreshments, impressive smoke and lighting effects, and free shirts thrown out into the crowd of people gathered around the edge of the stage. The excited crowd grew in size as the concert went on, and began chanting “one more song” as the concert concluded, not wanting the fun to end.
Their wishes for more from Lakeshore will not go unanswered for long, since the group will be playing with the Marching Band on the Quad on Friday, Nov. 5, at 4:30 p.m. for Homecoming.
Assistant Professor of Commercial Music and Lakeshore’s Program Director Steven Potaczek said he would love to get more students involved, wishing to grow the program and the ensemble. The group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, and have several plans in the works for future events.
