Samford Athletics has announced the 2023 class of the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame. The 2023 Class, which is the sixth in the history of the Hall of Fame, consists of a variety of athletes from various different sports. This year’s inductees include football’s Jaquiski Tartt, baseball’s Phillip Ervin, softball’s Megan Dowdy, men’s basketball’s Steve Barker, and the 2005 women’s soccer team.
The inductees join a storied tradition and a prestigious hall that includes Bobby Bowden, Cortland Finnegan, Jimbo Fisher, and other Samford sports legends.
Each inductee this year contributed greatly to Samford’s programs, but in particular, Jaquiski Tartt and Phillip Ervin stand out. The athletes were able to make the professional stage of their respective sports, with Tartt playing for the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL from 2015 to 2021 and Ervin playing for the Cincinnati Reds from 2017 to 2020.
Steve Barker and Megan Dowdy also had indelible impacts on the men’s basketball and softball programs, respectively, as Barker is the second all-time leading scorer for the program and Dowdy holds the single-season records for hits and at-bats for softball.
The members of the Hall of Fame Class of 2023 will be honored during Samford football’s homecoming game on November 5th.
