The Birmingham Bulls have had very little success since returning to the Magic City in 2017. Outside of being swept in the 2019 President’s Cup Finals, the Bulls haven’t made the playoffs. This is especially concerning given the fact that all but one or two teams in the SPHL make the postseason every year. The Bulls hope to end this trend this season.
This will be Craig Simchuk’s third season behind the bench in Birmingham. He has plenty of talent returning. Austin Lotz and Hayden Stewart return to complete one of the league’s most experienced goalie tandems. CJ Hayes and Mike Davis are returning to provide speed to the forward core. The front office also added several new additions to Simchuk’s squad. No addition was bigger than adding Stefan Brucato, who is coming off a career-high 38-point season as the captain for the rival Knoxville Ice Bears.
The Bulls are currently sitting at 2-0-0 on the season after sweeping a series against Vermilion County last weekend up in Illinois. The Bulls will have to take on the Huntsville Havoc in the Von Braun Center before their home opener against Knoxville on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Pelham Civic Complex.
