Samford soccer was met with a heartbreaking end to their season after a tough loss to Georgia on Friday.
Following their SoCon tournament win, the Dogs traveled to Athens, GA for the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Georgia scored two goals early in the game and controlled the ball for most of the first half, but Samford fought back in the second and was able to create quality chances. In the end, however, Georgia held onto their 2-0 lead and won the game.
While the loss was disappointing, the team is holding their heads high. Sophomore defender Maison Wells said that she is proud of the team’s accomplishments and is looking forward to next season.
“It definitely wasn’t the result we were looking for, especially after beating Auburn in the first round last year. But looking at the whole season, we really have a lot to be proud of,” Wells said. “I mean, we were SoCon champions for the ninth year in a row, and we won the conference tournament despite facing a lot of injuries. I’m just really excited for next season and I think we can have a lot of success again.”
