Samford University recently announced an event to come in the spring of 2023 that excited students. On March 14, 2023 from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., football player and author Tim Tebow will speak on campus in the Wright Center for a special event in the Tom and Marla Corts Distinguished Author Series.
Tebow’s most notable career moments include three seasons in the NFL during which he was a first-round draft pick for the Denver Broncos in 2010 and his time playing professional baseball. He also became the first underclassmen to win the Heisman Trophy during his time as quarterback at the University of Florida, which he led to two national championships.
During his stint with the Denver Broncos from 2010-2011, Tebow became known for kneeling on one knee on football fields during prayer, an action that became known around the country as “Tebowing.” This practice earned him the outspoken Christian reputation for which he is known today.
Along with being a professional athlete, Tebow is a renowned speaker, five-time New York Times Bestselling author, and founder of the Tim Tebow Foundation, which currently fights on behalf of those who can’t fight for themselves in numerous countries around the world.
According to the Tim Tebow Foundation website, the mission of the non-profit is “to bring faith, hope and love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need.”
In April 2022, Tebow published his most recent book, “Mission Possible: Go Create a Life That Counts.” From this book, Tebow will share insights and life stories during the event hosted by Samford in March.
The event will be ticketed, and tickets for Samford students are $10 dollars. A VIP ticket option is offered for $250 dollars, which includes a signed copy of “Mission Possible,” a photo with Tebow and attendance at a VIP reception, which will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the lobby of Brock Recital Hall.
A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit scholarships for students working towards a degree in special education with the Orlean Beeson School of Education. This reflects the heart that Tebow has for young people with special needs, whom he supports through his ministry, Night to Shine.
Samford students claim to be excited for this opportunity to listen to Tebow speak and share from his book.
“I think Tim Tebow coming to talk at Samford is fantastic and a great opportunity for the university,” Crimson Sports Editor Davis Domescik said. “He’s one of the most prolific athletes of all time, and hearing how he’s lived his life as a Christian will be really interesting seeing as he is nationally renowned for his achievements, on and off the field.”
