Founder of Sweet Cheyenne Baking Co. Maggie Mulder officially launched her at-home baking business on Feb. 28, 2023. The young professional is now taking local orders for various events including birthday parties, weddings, showers and school events. After almost a decade of growing her passion, Maggie is putting her self-taught skills into effect by serving her local community.
Mulder is based in Birmingham, Alabama and she has been baking since she was in elementary school with her mom. She said that it accidentally turned into a business when she baked things for people and then they would offer to pay her. Mulder has made several different baked goods from grab-n-go cookies to wedding cakes.
“My favorite thing to make is snickerdoodle cupcakes, and they are so sweet. I have been making them since I was a freshman in high school so the last 8 years,” Mulder said. “Other than that, I love making cakes because they are so fun to decorate. I feel very accomplished making cakes.”
On April 3, Mulder had an event on Ben Brown where she gave out free samples of her cookies. She set up a table with her friend, Ally Weisgerber, who helped her to share her passion with other Samford students walking by on campus.
To place an order, customers use the Google Order Form located in her Instagram Bio. Customers can define the exact baked goods they are looking for, the amount needed, the flavors desired and any additional information to be requested. Once the form is submitted, Mulder will send a confirmation email with a quote for the goods as well as a copy of the details for the order to be approved before baking. One can access the google form through the link in her Instagram bio @sweet.cheyenne.bc.
Mulder puts a lot of emphasis on the customizable part of her baking business.
“It’s not about looking at a list of options and seeing whatever I have. It’s about asking what do you want? And how can I do my best to reach that? Because I want to serve somebody the best way that I can,” Mulder said.
Mulder’s favorite thing about baking is the joy it brings to others.
“I am incredibly grateful and overjoyed for the opportunity to get to serve the people around me through my greatest passion,” Mulder said. “I hope to spread the joy of baking to all, both through my social media content as well as by my baking service to all who order.”
