No matter what stage of life one is in, people want to feel welcomed and included. In universities, this means looking for new, unique ways to become involved on the campus. Samford University was ranked highest in the nation for student engagement by The Wall Street Journal and Times Higher Education. There are numerous organizations on campus that allow students to be involved, even if they are not a part of Greek life.
Grace Dance Ministry is a student-led organization for women who want to incorporate their passion for dance into their worship of God. In the fall semester, Grace Dance Ministry has weekly classes, each taught by a different instructor and focusing on a different dance style. Classes begin with a devotional given by one of the leaders of the organization to set the tone of worship.
Lydia Glover, the director of Grace Dance Ministry, said, “I always thought it was very cool that dance can be a form of worship that not many people think about. A lot of people think about singing, you know, praying, but dance is a really beautiful way to worship.”
Every spring semester, Grace Dance Ministry has a recital for its members. The themes are different every year, but they all revolve around subjects from the Bible. Last year, the show was titled “A Seat at the Table.” Each piece represented God calling the outcasts to a seat at His table.
