As the fall semester gains momentum, the Greek recruitment cycle begins anew. Samford University is home to fifteen unique fraternities and sororities, each given a chance to draft new members into their ranks each year. Notably, the Interfraternity Council (IFC) reported record enrollment numbers for this year’s recruitment.
“Enrollment levels this year are super exciting, obviously,” said Max Adams, an IFC executive member. “I love that we broke the record at 236. It just means that Greek Life is going to continue to grow and grow.”
The enrollment numbers are no surprise, given that Samford broke the record for freshmen enrollment once again. Earlier this year, Samford reported that 1,080 first-year students enrolled at Samford, a noticeable increase from the previous year’s 972. For more about freshman enrollment, read here.
Last year we had a record at 201 and now we’re at 236, which is absolutely amazing that this many guys want to sign up and be a part of Greek Life—which is my favorite part of being at Samford, is being a part of Samford Greek Life.

With record-breaking enrollment comes new challenges, especially the difficulty of keeping up with a thousand caffeine-fueled freshmen. However, the IFC representatives do not see the challenges as a threat; rather, they are hopeful for the future.
According to Adams, “One of the challenges is that we’ve never seen 236 guys go through recruitment at one time before. It’s been a struggle getting them all at the right place at the right time, getting them together for voting, but so far it’s been so good.”
With record numbers in mind and the recruitment process completed, Samford has much to look forward to for men’s involvement on campus.
