This week, Samford’s chapter of International Justice Mission (IJM) is taking clothing donations for their upcoming “Threads” event. All proceeds from this event will be used to rescue trafficking victims.
International Justice Mission is a national organization that works to end modern slavery and advocate for victims of trafficking. Their vision is to “rescue millions, protect half a billion and make justice unstoppable.” Currently, there are around 80 college chapters of IJM.
This Samford organization set up donation bins across campus, asking for any unwanted, gently-used clothing. They are accepting donations until Oct. 21, and on Oct. 23, IJM is hosting a sorting event to prepare for the thrift shop. The IJM chapters have a goal of raising $100,000 with this event to fund rescue missions.
Allison Middendorf, the president of Samford IJM, said, “It costs $9,100 to fund a sex trafficking rescue mission. And so, if we raise $100,000, we can fund eleven of those, which is amazing.”
Their pop-up thrift shop will take place on Ben Brown on Oct. 25-26 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Follow @samfordijm on Instagram for updates and upcoming events.
