It’s that wonderful time of year again. Can you hear the coughing and sneezing? What about the sighs coming from stressed college students? Yep. You guessed it. Course registration is here. It is perhaps one of the most stressful and most forgotten parts of being a college student.
At Samford, it’s easy to forget about course selection until conversations surround class times. Or maybe people start asking questions about what professors are hard graders and those who don’t give tests. Suddenly you remember you have to register for classes. Ratemyprofessors.com user numbers skyrocket around this time.
Course Registration Changes
All that to say, course registration season is not the easiest time on a college campus, but Samford has created ways to improve student’s experience. Gone are the days of receiving a PIN number from your advisors and rushing to type it in as you race your peers to register for that one easy math professor. That’s right, all you need for registration now is a meeting with your advisor to remove an academic hold on your account.
“I think it makes it a lot easier. I think that it makes it a lot less stressful in that you don’t have to copy and paste it [PIN Number] every time that you go in, or write it out,” said junior Ethan Henshaw. “I think too, for students who are proactive about their registration, and are really looking to register plans or make plans before they go in to registration, because that’s a great option to make it super seamless and register in like less than five minutes. It’s really nice to not have to have my PIN every single time I go and make a plan. I loved it that the only thing it took was for me to meet with my advisor.”
Select your desired courses, meet with your advisor to gain approval. Your advisor will lift the academic hold on your account. Following that meeting, remember the Course Registration Numbers for the classes you wish to take then type them into the registration tab when your designated registration time slot opens and click submit.

Tips & Tricks for Registering
If you want to make things even easier, create a preferred plan on the registration tab before your registration date. The morning your time slot opens, select course registration in Banner, select the Spring 2024 semester and chose plans, then click submit and you’re set. That is if the course still has room.
In the end, you will eventually receive enough credits to graduate, and your advisor is always there to help.
