The Wall Street Journal’s surveys recently placed Samford in the top 10 for three categories, “Preparation for Career”, “Recommendation” and “Character Development”. The survey focused specifically on post-graduate financial success and the quality of student life on campus.
In the “Preparation for Career rankings,” Samford placed eighth. This category highlights universities embodying excellent career preparation for students who have recently graduated and those who are close to the finishing line.
Holly Strawn, Assistant Director of the Samford Career Development Center, is proud of this recent achievement. The Career Center helps students build resumes, apply for jobs and establish important connections with alumni or future employers.
“We want students to feel confident in their skills and abilities as they apply to jobs or graduate school and enter the workforce,” Strawn said. “Our first destination data shows Samford’s student preparedness. 97% of undergraduate alumni are working or in graduate school within 6 months of graduating from Samford.”
“Our students also have numerous opportunities to grow their faith and understand how this faith can guide them through life and positivity impact those around them, whether at work, in their neighborhood, or in other environments,” said Dora Ditchfield, Director of Career Development Center.
Samford placed second in a new category this year. The category of Character Development looks at colleges who encourage students to be resilient in tough situations and to live out their faith. Samford provides this through convocation sessions that are worship-centered, impactful diversity sessions throughout campus, and thought-provoking lectures given by professors.
Finally, Samford was placed at tenth on the list of the “Most Recommended Colleges in the U.S. Today”. This survey asked students how likely they were to recommend their college and if they would choose their college again. Samford’s skilled faculty and staff work to create new events that foster a sense of community on campus.
“We currently have 206 organizations on campus that students can join! There is no way students won’t have an opportunity for involvement,” said Carla Novaes-Reddick, Director of Student Involvement.
Samford currently ranks 338 out of 400 universities across the nation, with learning opportunities and preparing for career being their top recognitions.
