Robby Robertson, the new Coordinator of Intramural Sports, opens up leagues for returning IMs: billiards and table tennis.
The last time billiards and table tennis were played as an IM sport at Samford was fall of 2022.
As this is Robertson’s first year as the Coordinator of Intramural Sports, he is looking for ways to maximize the new amenities of the Seibert Rec Center, such as their pool tables and ping-pong tables.
“We are providing another avenue to compete,” Robertson said.
Coming from East Tennessee State University, Robertson, who started working as a graduate student with a team, has now taken on the job of coordinating IMs by himself.
“IMs are a great way to build relationships,” Robertson said.
Faculty and staff are even encouraged to play in leagues too. Robertson is currently participating in a league.
Todd Oakley, the Associate Campus Minister, is one example of a staff member who competes alongside students on different Intramural teams.
For billiards, there is an open league and women’s league that is a one-person roster. While the co-ed billiards league has room for a two-person roster.
Each table tennis league consists of a one-person roster.
“The ping pong IM has been a blast and a great way to meet people over friendly competition,” said sophomore, Jake Birnbaum.
For the billiards and table tennis season, each team gets to play three games over the span of the regular season which boils down to a single elimination bracket.
There has been great participation for both billiards and table tennis with 41 billiards teams and 60 table tennis teams.
There are multiple IMs to embark on in the spring semester such as softball, sand volleyball and now table tennis and billiards.
Students, faculty and staff are all encouraged to get involved and unlock their competitive side.
Students can sign up to play on the IMLeagues app.
