On Friday Sept. 20, students can enjoy listening to Broadway hits performed by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra beginning at 7 p.m. in the Wright Center.
The Alabama Symphony Orchestra will perform Broadway hits mainly focused on “Leading Ladies” in famous shows. They will perform songs from shows including “Mama Mia!” “Les Miserables” and “Wicked.” The show will also feature vocalists Kristi Tingle Higginbotham, Kristen Sharp Campbell and Jessica Clark among others.
Along with the vocalists and the orchestra, students will also hear some of their friends or classmates perform onstage. Samford University’s A Cappella Women’s Choir will join the stage with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra to perform some songs.
“It’s always a great honor to perform with the ASO under the direction of Carlos Izcaray,” Brooklyn Andrzejewski, a sophomore and member of the a cappella choir, said. “They are all amazingly talented musicians and it helps remind us why we do what we do.”
While performances by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra have a set plan and list of songs they plan to perform, Andrzejewski said students never know what to expect from a concert like this one — besides great music.
“You never really know what to expect from an ASO concert other than amazing music and possibly a few surprises along the way. You just have to come and find out,” Andrzejewski said.
Tickets for this event range from $29 to $49 depending on where one sits in the Wright Center. While this is not a free event, this is an event that features music from famous broadway shows and Samford students performing in it. Andrzejewski recommends students to attend the event to support the Samford A Cappella Women’s Choir and do something they haven’t done before.
“If you don’t normally attend events like these then try it out!” Andrzejewski said. “Support your fellow students who are also performing, and take a step out of your comfort zone. I promise you won’t regret it.”
