Samford’s Worship Arts Ensemble will host its Fall night of worship on Nov. 5 at 7:30pm in Reid Chapel. Convo credit will be available.
The service will meditate on the character of God through a compelling mixture of familiar hymns and contemporary worship songs reflecting the rich variety of traditions represented in Samford’s faith community. WAE will be joined by a special guest from Hunter Street Baptist Church.
WAE is made up of students a variety of majors across many departments–including graphic design, business, and education.
It began in 2017 under the leadership of Dr. Eric Mathis, associate dean of the Samford School of the Arts and director of the Center for Worship and the Arts. Today, the ensemble is directed by Chip Colee and Professor Steven Potaczek, the School of the Arts’ new professor of Commercial Music.
WAE was created as a forum in which to cultivate the craft required for intention and excellence in worship leadership.
“WAE wants to foster fellowship and worship opportunities across Samford and in our community while introducing the church to new concepts and tools for worship,” founder Dr. Mathis stated.
However, WAE is but continuing a legacy of excellence in worship leadership at Samford.
“Since its beginning, Samford has maintained a strong commitment to preparing leaders for the church,” director Chip Colee said, “WAE exists to train a new generation of leaders coming together to grow spiritually, lead with musical excellence, and encourage the church.”
