After the Legion FC season came to an end two weeks ago, a few players picked up some end-of-season honors after a successful inaugural campaign.
The Golden Boot award was given to midfielder Prosper Kasim, as he finished the season tied for the team lead in goals at seven with Montgomery native and Legion forward JJ Williams, Kasim picked up this honor as a player who controlled the midfield for the majority of the season.
The second award went to Mikey Lopez as he earned Defender of the Year.
Lopez switched positions throughout the course of the year but cemented himself as a defensive midfielder who aided the backline at many crucial moments in games. Lopez added a handful of goals as well, tallying three on the year.
Mathieu Laurent was selected as Newcomer of the Year.
After being involved in multiple penalties and errors inside the Legion’s own 18-yard-box, Laurent turned things around and became a reliable defender, making very few errors in the latter part of the season.
The Community Engagement Award went to midfielder Daniel Johnson. The West Ham product was involved with the Legion D League and multiple charity works throughout the course of the season.
Goalkeeper Matt Vanoekel was voted Fan Favorite for the 2019 season.
Although his season was up and down, Vanoekel was always putting a smile on the faces of fans.
His season was highlighted by a plethora of big saves in crucial moments in games.
In the end, the most important award, Legion Most Valuable Player, was presented to Kasim.
Although the 2019 season has come to an end, season tickets next year are on sale now as the upcoming season currently has an opening day set for March of 2020.
