Samford Football’s head coach Chris Hatcher becomes the all-time wins for Samford football. Chris Hatcher passed Pat Sullivan at 48 wins on his career. Coach hatcher is in his 8th season as the bulldog’s head coach at a record of 161-93. His teams have consistently been among the Southern Conference and FCS leaders in several categories.
Coach Hatcher’s offense created the FCS all-purpose yards leader in Montrell Washington (176.18 ypg) and the seventh-best quarterback in the nation in passing yards per game, Liam Welsh(306.0 ypg). As a team last year the bulldogs were ranked 10th in the nation in total offense (448.7 ypg), ninth passing offense (307.5 ypg), and sixth in scoring offense (37.9 ppg).
The Bulldogs are on an upward trend with coach Hatcher at the helm. I am excited to see what happens next, everything seems to be clicking for the bulldogs this season. Samford moves to 8-1 on the season and 6-0 in the conference. For the first time in program history, they are 6-0 in the SOCON. The 8-1 start is also on par with the 1991 team that finished the regular season with a 10-1 record. The Bulldogs have two games left Chattanooga on the road next week then Mercer at home the week after. All that to say the bulldogs are set up to potentially sweep the conference. Let’s just say I’m excited to see what the future holds for Chris Hatcher and the bulldogs.
