Samford Women’s Basketball has had highs and lows through 12 games this season.
The Bulldogs currently sit at 4-8 on the year, with their most recent loss coming to Nebraska on the road. The team has lost five of their last six games, but Bulldog fans should take the struggles with a grain of salt.
Like their counterparts on the men’s side, Samford has scheduled a rigorous nonconference schedule, facing the likes of Vanderbilt, Nebraska, and UCF on the road. Hopefully, this tough slate will help prepare the Bulldogs for SoCon play, which begins Jan. 5 for the team, as they will play host to Western Carolina.
So far this season, preseason All-SoCon players Andrea Cournoyer and Sussy Ngulefac have lived up to the hype for Samford. Cournoyer leads the team in points with 18.5 per game, while Ngulefac leads the team in rebounding, averaging five boards per game. Ngulefac is also averaging 12.3 points per game, proving to be an excellent center for the Bulldogs.
If Samford wants to get back on track, the Bulldogs will likely need a third option to emerge. While Cournoyer and Ngulefac have been playing great, they are the only Bulldogs who average double figures in points. Players like Sanaa Redmond and Alyssa Tarpley need to take the next step in their Samford careers if the team wants to stay in the win column steadily.
Luckily for the Bulldogs, they get an extended break to recuperate and reset for their next game, which is at Auburn on Dec. 18.
