Samford Men’s and Women’s tennis are rounding into form in the late stages of their seasons, with SoCon Tournament play right around the corner.
Men’s tennis holds an overall record of 10-9 with a conference record of 5-1 as they look to challenge for the title. Samford is ranked second in the SoCon behind Chattanooga, who shares a 5-1 conference record with the Bulldogs but holds an overall record of 15-6.
Samford played at home against UAB on Wednesday, April 5, in a game that ended in a loss for the Bulldogs. UAB played strong and won all three games in the doubles while also picking up four additional points from the six in the singles. Samford’s Sandeep Mohandoss and Maxwell Giddens were able to pick up two points from UAB.
The loss did not hurt the men’s team’s stride as they played Chattanooga at home on Saturday, April 8, winning 6-1 in a dominant performance. Samford won two of the three games in singles while only losing one in the doubles.
Mohandoss was named SoCon Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after two strong performances against UAB and Chattanooga, where he only lost one of the four games he played.
Head Coach Oliver Reynolds is excited about the season’s final matches.
“We are excited about the position we are in to finish up the regular season on our own terms. The team has been getting better in every match,” Reynolds said.
Women’s tennis currently holds an overall record of 11-6 with a conference record of 3-2, ranking 3rd underneath ETSU and Furman.
Only playing one match this past week, the Lady Bulldogs faced Furman on Friday, April 7, in a game that ended 5-2 in favor of Paladins. Furman won two out of the three doubles and picked up four points out of six in the singles matches. Samford’s Ally Hayduk and Samantha Nanere both won their singles matches for the Bulldogs.
Samford Men’s and Women’s Tennis will look to finish their season strong on the road, as the men play at Mercer on Saturday, April 15, and the women play UNCG Friday, April 14 and Western Carolina the next day on Saturday, April 15.
