Another week. Another volleyball match. Another win for the Samford Bulldogs. However, this match was not of the ordinary.
Samford held its “Dig Orange Match” this Friday. But why would Samford, a school known for its red and navy representation, host an orange-themed night? The answer: to honor Caroline Neisler, a former Samford volleyball player who suddenly passed away after an acute myeloid luekemia diagnosis.
Samford Volleyball calls the annual event “one of the most special nights of the season.”
“It’s a game that truly matters” said Gracie Lynn Butler, an outside hitter for the Bulldogs. “The ‘Dig Orange Match’ is a game that represents so much more than volleyball. It is an honor to dedicate the game to Caroline Niesler and her family.”
“The team played with a lot of energy, and you could tell that they were playing to honor Caroline” said Kristen Watts, a senior student. The Bulldogs defeated Chattanooga 3-0.
