This past Homecoming Weekend was one of the busiest weekends on Samford’s campus this year. The number of events, combined with Halloween celebrations, led to a lively campus atmosphere.
The anniversary classes that were featured for reunions were 2013, 1998 and 1973. The events for students and alumni started earlier in the week with various food trucks, a movie night in the wright center and the Homecoming Ball. Senior Noah Letcher enjoyed his last Samford Homecoming Ball with friends on Thursday, Oct. 26.
“The live band was amazing, and the 360-video camera was a lot of fun. Very glad I was able to go and celebrate this week,” said Letcher.
Events picked up again on Friday with a series of lectures including topics covering AI, architecture, Egypt and food and health. Other activities consisted of numerous open houses with different departments on campus, wrapped up by a Homecoming Quad Party.
Saturday’s activities included lots of engaging tailgate parties and the Samford-Citadel football game. The Bulldogs won the game 37-7 in a blowout performance. During halftime, the Samford Marching Band performed its show, and the homecoming court was presented with seniors Aiden Williams and Isbella Lopez honored as king and queen. Homecoming Chair Alexa Mcdermott was happy with how Homecoming week was enjoyed by the Samford community.
“I think everyone was really excited for Homecoming this year,” Mcdermott said. “The events in the week leading up to the game are catered towards the entire student body to celebrate Homecoming and Samford as a whole, which never fails to get students’ hype. At all the events, the students were incredibly thankful and excited.”
